Why is there such a difference between online and offline languages?

Online translation is powered by AI, while the offline language is phrase matching with a set of offline language data. It’s best to use online translation. Offline translation is made for convenience and necessity, in translating words, which could help in situations where you just need to say things like “no peanuts”, “vegetarian”, “train station”.

I ordered Travis Business, why can’t I have transcripts?

Thanks for your support. Your contribution made it possible to develop the Business Transcript function, we’re developing it! Once it’s completed, you will be sent an email to register online and your device will be updated automatically with the Business Transcript functions for lifetime. Thanks!

It depends on your mobile connection, such as signal quality, mobile operator’s connection to internet

Last updated: August 24, 2017 05:20

How much space (GB) is in there on the device?

The device has 8GB on board storage. We will optimize our development to make best use of the on-board storage for current and future functions.

Why doesn’t Travis automatically detect or change between languages spoken, when it said it would?

Our apologies, it’s still under development. Currently in our labs, it’s already able to automatically detect, but it’s sometimes fast and sometimes too slow. We would like to develop it further to be more stable in detection before releasing this function to you in an auto-update.

Warranty is one year

Last updated: August 24, 2017 05:31

Why doesn’t Travis work as fast as it said on Indiegogo (translation in “real time”, max 2 seconds delay)

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. A few factors are involved e.g. internet connection. We are continuously working on improving this.

Why there is no continental portuguese accent (only brazilian Portuguese) included in the voice translation, if Portuguese (from Portugal) is also one of the offline languages?

We’re working on it

We expect an update schedule of once to twice a month. Your Travis will indicate that it’s been updated.

How is the device charged?

Charges with a USB cable/charger just like a phone.

Last updated: August 24, 2017 05:32

Does this device support 4G (SIM card) or it just get connected to phone (using phone 4G)?

It’s 3G (not 4G) which is fast enough for translation, and consumes less battery life. Travis has its own SIM card slot to put in a SIM card, works independently without needing your phone.

There’s no hardware difference between the regular Travis and the Go Business Travis! The difference is Go Business Travis! comes with a business transcript service, normally there would be subscription fee but specially for Indiegogo backers here there is it for lifetime (no subscription fees needed). It’s our way of thanking you for helping us start the service.

Is there a possibility to set the device up so that two different bluetooth devices can connect to the same device? That was if two people were meeting at a local cafe the two can have a private conversation without everyone being able to hear the translator share one or both sides.

Technically it’s possible, with a pair of bluetooth earphones which were designed to be able to work as a pair (e.g. stereo bluetooth earphones like Airpod). We haven’t included the software development work to support this function for this launch - perhaps an interesting stretch goal.

Should the battery develop a fault, will it be possible to replace it without having to send the unit back to the manufacturer? With a few basic tools (such as a pry kit) will it be possible to open up the unit to get at the battery?

While it’s not designed to be opened by user, indeed with tools it can be opened. We’ll take note to prepare some instructions when we document user manuals / technical how to’s.

Can offline languages be changed?

No, but please feedback requests. when we are able to implement more we can let them know (in future)

Last updated: August 24, 2017 05:36

Does the translation improve over time?

Yes, translation engines use artificial intelligence and machine learning to learn translation patterns which improve over time. We are also building our own neural network to better detect slang and accents. That’s why we started this movement for early adopters, so you can support us in moving towards a world without language barriers!

Who pays customs and/or VAT?

It is the contributor’s responsibility to ensure items can be legally imported to their country and how much import taxes might cost. Basically, campaigners have little to no control over this. If contributors incur a customs/VAT tax, they will receive a notice and simply go to their carrier or post office to pay the tax before the perk is released.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
